Total Demand Distortion (TDD)
Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) is a common method used to measure the level of waveform distortion.Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) measurements are an effective method of evaluating voltage distortion. However THD can be misleading when evaluating current distortion. THD is the summation of the harmonics presented as a percentage of the fundamental. For voltage THD this will be the summation of the voltage harmonics compared to the fundamental voltage. In a non-faulted condition voltage will always be present so a proper reference always exists.

MPQ2000 Monitoring a TT grounded system
Measuring the voltage between the ground and neutral provides an indication of the integrity of the ground connection. The poorer the connection (higher impedance), the higher the voltage between the neutral and ground conductors will be. During a fault, this level could rise over 50 V and become a serious hazard.

Rapid Voltage Change (RVC)
A rapid voltage change is a fast rise or fall of the RMS voltage. This can be caused by the switching on of a specific load or by a sudden change in source voltage. Sudden source voltage changes can occur in solar grids when the sun is obscured by clouds. Source voltage changes can also occur in wind farms when then wind speed decreases. Load switching can cause a rapid voltage change if the rating of the load is a significant fraction of the fault level of the supply voltage.

Enabling Additional Channels
When creating a setup file a particular power wiring connection needs to be selected. This instructs the instrument on how to calculate the power and energy. When the power wiring connection is create the required input channels are automatically enabled.In some cases the operator may wish to enable additional channels for other measurements. This will not affect the power or energy measurements.

Determining harmonic direction
Harmonics are caused by non-linear loads. Linear loads draw a linear current that follows the changing voltage of the AC waveform. Non-linear loads draw current pulses periodically, which creates distorted waveforms.
